‘The Hunger Games’ scores rare trifecta: #1 movie, #1 book, and #1 album

"The Hunger Games" is virtually guaranteed to win the box office again this weekend, with an estimated $60 million haul. The dystopian thriller is also expected to dominate the global markets as well. But why stop there? In a rare feat that effectively amounts to popular culture dominance, "The Hunger Games" is now the #1 movie, book, and album in America.

The film is based on Suzanne Collins's book of the same title, the first installment of a well-read trilogy. Scholastic, the book's publisher, released up to date stats this week that reveal a staggering 36.5 million copies of the three books in print. The first book has appeared on the New York Times bestseller list for 180 consecutive weeks. Even more impressive, all three books -- "The Hunger Games," "Caching Fire," and "Mocking Jay" -- have held court a top of the USA Today's bestseller list for ten of the last eleven weeks, including this week.

This week, the film's soundtrack debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200. It's the first soundtrack to debut at the top spot since 2009, when Michael Jackson's "This is It" capitalized on the King of Pop's unexpected death. "The Hunger Games: Songs from District 12 and Beyond" features a cavalcade of today's top stars, among them Taylor Swift, Arcade Fire, Miranda Lambert, and Maroon 5. The album is produced by veteran rocker and Academy Award winner T-Bone Burnett ("Crazy Heart" 2009).

To celebrate this admirable feat, Lionsgate has released a new 30 second spot, aptly titled "Trifecta". As you'll see below, the spot contains unreleased footage from the film. It should satiate ravenous fans for a minute or two, at least until they go see "The Hunger Games" again, as they listen to the soundtrack on the way to theater, and read the book at red lights.
