    ‘The Hunger Games’ couture’d characters get McQueen makeover

    For "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire," freshly-minted Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence is looking decidedly haute couture as Katniss, in a gown that some have compared to an Alexander McQueen design.

    And why wouldn't we draw the comparison? Effie Trinket, played by Elizabeth Banks, already debuted her Capitol Couture portrait in a definitive McQueen design (see below).

    Katniss' look seems to harken back to an amalgam of two McQueen gowns: one being a fall 2011 dress, pictured above, and another explosion of fabric from fall/winter 2012.

(Burton, who designed Kate Middleton's royal wedding gown, took over as creative director for the famed fashion house in 2010 after McQueen's untimely death.)

    Insiders say Katniss’ costume is definitely not a McQueen, but you can see why some are making the comparison. Perhaps "Catching Fire" costume designer Trish Summerville was simply drawing inspiration from the British design house. Summerville is known for creating powerful female looks, having worked on "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" -- which inspired an entire collection at H&M. (Hmm. Methinks we'll soon see "Catching Fire" clothes at a store near you!)

    Other "Hunger Games" characters that have been couture'd in recent days include Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson), Cinna (Lenny Kravitz) and Caesar Flickerman (Stanley Tucci).

    11:20 a.m. PT update: New "Hunger Games" character Beetee, played by Jeffrey Wright, has now debuted his "Catching Fire" couture.

    3:25 p.m. PT update: And now we can see Jenna Malone's pictorial debut as Johanna Mason.
