Tributes, mark your calendars – Nov. 11, 2013, is the day the world first gets to see the second installment in the wildly popular "Hunger Games" franchise.
Lionsgate has announced that "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" will receive its gala world premiere in London, England, 11 days before it opens in theaters in the United States (on Nov. 22).
Given the continuing popularity of Suzanne Collins' series of novels and the blockbuster success of the first film in the series — it has grossed close to $700 million worldwide — the premiere should be a major event, and the fact Jennifer Lawrence won an Academy Award earlier this year for "Silver Linings Playbook" will only increase anticipation for "Catching Fire."
So far, Lionsgate has announced a city and a date for the premiere, but not a venue. Odds are, though, that the primary cast will be on hand, including Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, and Philip Seymour Hoffman (who can compare notes on caring for your Oscar with Lawrence). This will be one of the major red carpet events of the fall, and we'll keep you informed as "Catching Fire" makes its way to theaters.
While "Capitol Couture" is fictional, Lionsgate is taking it into the real world with billboards promoting the magazine, bearing the slogan "See The Future" as a model wears a bizarre red tweed outfit that covers her face (along with a pair of wrap-around sunglasses). At least one "Capitol Couture" billboard has been spotted in Los Angeles, with a photo on Instagram verifying its existence. There's even a comment asking, "How do you buy Capitol Couture stuff?" So maybe the style of the decadent rich in Panem isn’t as out there as the filmmakers thought – it looks like there's a demand for it after all.
