Mum's still the word on the future of "Star Wars," but it was full steam ahead with the ever-expanding Marvel Universe at Disney's D23 Expo this past weekend — most notably via some in-person appearances by key cast members of this fall's Phase Two installment, "Thor: The Dark World."
The God of Thunder himself (Chris Hemsworth, as he's known outside of Asgard) wasn't in attendance, as he was probably engaged in one of his epic 5-hour workout sessions, but returning players Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston and even Anthony Hopkins were present to meet the press, greet the fans and prepare the world for the rather epic-looking sequel. We got a chance to speak with all three to get their thoughts on some specific aspects of filming their comic-book sequel.
Natalie reprises her role as Thor's Earthling sweetie Jane Foster and is genuinely in awe of the craftsmanship that went into making the sequel, particularly the sets, costumes and computer effects. And this is coming from someone who starred in three "Star Wars" films, so she knows what she's talking about, folks.
Everyone's favorite supervillain returns to form an uneasy alliance with his brother Thor. Tom — who last month brought down the house in-character as Loki at the San Diego Comic-Con — loved seeing the dimension of Asgard and beyond ... particularly when you consider the artistry that goes into turning a set in rainy, grey London into "the darkest recesses and brightest spots of the universe."
His costume is too "uncomfortable and heavy" for even Odin himself, but Anthony Hopkins is truly in awe of being a part of the Marvel Universe, a phenomenon he was completely unfamiliar with until "Thor" director Kenneth Branagh introduced him to it over four years ago. Also, don't expect him to ever join Chris Hemsworth in his mighty workout regimen.
"Thor: The Dark World" hits theaters on November 8.
