George Clooney and Grant Heslov Reunite for ‘Coronado High’

You don't break up a winning team, and George Clooney and Grant Heslov have a new movie in the works after co-producing this year's Best Picture Oscar winner "Argo." The picture will find them working with other "Argo" alumni as well.

Clooney and Heslov are in talks with Sony Pictures for a new project, "Coronado High," which Clooney will direct as well as co-produce. David Klawans, who was an executive producer on "Argo," is also on board as a producer.

While details are slim at this point, it's known that "Coronado High" is based on a magazine piece by Joshuah Bearman, who wrote the article "The Great Escape" for Wired Magazine that was the basis for "Argo"'s screenplay. "Coronado High" will tell the true story of a group of teenagers who become drug smugglers, bringing illegal product into a prosperous California community not far from San Diego.

"Coronado High" isn't the only film currently occupying Clooney and Heslov's time. Their production company Smoke House is currently overseeing "The Monuments Men," a film about a World War II-era mission to recover stolen art from the Nazis. Clooney is also directing "The Monuments Men," which is scheduled for a December release.

Clooney and Heslov are producers on the John Wells picture "August: Osage County," which will open in November. And Smoke House has at least two other films in development, including a screen version of Douglas Preston and Mario Spezi's novel "The Monster of Florence" and a story about the Wall Street bailout written by Chris Terrio, who was a screenwriter on "Argo."

The latter project may find Clooney and Heslov competing at the box office with another picture about high-level financial dirty dealings from a team that scored at the Oscars last February. Director David O. Russell is currently shooting "American Hustle," a fact-based about the ABSCAM bribery investigation of the late 1970s and early '80s that reteams him with his "Silver Linings Playbook" stars Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, and Jennifer Lawrence.

An in case you were wondering, George Clooney is still acting when he can tear himself away from writing and producing. He'll co-star with Sandra Bullock in the sci-fi thriller "Gravity" directed by Alfonso Cuaron, slated to debut in October. And he's heading the cast of Brad Bird's hush-hush Disney project "Tomorrowland."
