Ben Foster as Lance Armstrong (Photo Credit: Facebook/Studio Canal)
The first photo from the set of Stephen Frears's untitled Lance Armstrong biopic, which stars Ben Foster as the disgraced cycling champ, has just surfaced, and it's going to make you do a double-take for sure.
In the shot, a toned, sweaty Foster sports the cyclist's signature yellow as he passes cheering fans — and he bears an uncanny resemblance to Armstrong. The still easily could be mistaken for artwork from one of the Tour de France winner's Nike ad campaigns (pre-2012, of course).
Prior to this potentially career-defining role, Foster has been best known for his appearances in "3:10 to Yuma," "The Messenger," and "The Mechanic." Most recently, he portrayed William Burroughs in the loosely biographical drama "Kill Your Darlings," and starred opposite Rooney Mara in "Ain't Them Bodies Saints."
But it isn't just his work on-screen that's getting attention lately. Foster, 32, also happens to be the current beau of Sean Penn's ex, actress Robin Wright, 47, who has been at the actor's side at recent screenings of both "Kill Your Darlings" and "Ain't Them Bodies Saints."
This first image of Foster as Armstrong comes just before the release of another Armstrong flick, Alex Gibney's documentary, "The Armstrong Lie." We're pretty sure you can figure out the tone of that one based on its title.
Still, as a bit of background, Gibney (who won an Oscar for his 2007 documentary, "Taxi to the Dark Side") was originally hired in 2009 to make a film about the icon's return to cycling, but his project turned into something else entirely as the doping scandal emerged and Armstrong (finally) confessed. The doc hits theaters in limited release on November 8, but you'll have to wait a bit longer to see Foster put his spin on this piece of history.
