Filming on David O. Russell's latest project, "American Hustle," was set to resume in Beantown on Monday, spokespeople from Sony Pictures announced. Starring Cooper, Christian Bale, and Jennifer Lawrence (in all of their lovely-strange hairdos), Friday's filming schedule in Boston was scrapped after Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick requested that Bostonians stay inside as police went on an intense citywide manhunt for Tsarnaev. With the suspect is custody, the lockdown request has been lifted, and Russell and his company are back to work.
"American Hustle," Russell's first movie since the critical and commercial success of "Silver Linings Playbook," is a drama inspired by the true story of the ABSCAM scandal of the late 1970s and '80s, in which the FBI caught a number of congressmen taking bribes in a sting operation. The movie also features Robert De Niro and Louis CK.
While Cooper may not have been working on Friday, he did use his time productively -- to stop by Boston Medical Center to visit Jeff Bauman Jr., who helped the feds identify one of the bombing suspects. Bauman also lost both of his legs below the knee as a result of last week's blast.
Cooper also attended an interfaith service on Friday where President Barack Obama honored the victims of the bombing and their families.
It remains to be seen whether "American Hustle" will earn Cooper an Oscar nomination like "Silver Linings Playbook" did, but before the movie has even finished filming, Cooper has proved he's a class act and a friend to the people of Boston.
