Dustin Hoffman Saves the Life of a Jogger

Add Dustin Hoffman to the list of superhero celebrities! The movie star was in London's Hyde Park last month when he raced to the aid of a collapsed jogger— and the man he saved is now speaking out about the rescue.

British attorney Sam Dempster was out for a run on April 27 when he suffered cardiac arrest and dropped to the ground. Hoffman, who was taking a walk in the park, rushed to the man's side. Until the paramedics arrived, the 74-year-old actor, who most recently appeared in the short-lived HBO series "Luck," tended to the ailing runner.

Following the incident, Martin Macarthur, a paramedic on the scene, talked about the Academy Award winner's role in the rescue. "It is essential to get a history of what happened, and he witnessed the jogger go down," he told the British paper The Sun. "He was the main witness and saw him stagger and go down. He stayed on the scene for the whole duration of the resuscitation which was about 15 minutes. He was very concerned… When we were carrying the patient into the ambulance he said 'Great job, guys.' He really appreciated what had happened."

According to the report, the paramedics accidentally bagged up Hoffman's iPod and sunglasses from the scene, thinking they belonged to Dempster, and took them away in the ambulance. They were later returned to the star. As for Dempster, he's on the mend following a life-saving operation. "I have no memory of what happened," he told the paper. "The paramedics told me I had been saved by Dustin Hoffman. It's unbelievable."

Hoffman is just one of many celebrities who have saved the day. Over the weekend, Mila Kunis aided a 50-year-old man, who works at her home, when he suffered a violent seizure. While her friend called 911, the actress tilted the man's head so that he wouldn't choke. He has since made a full recovery.

Also in the news recently Patrick Dempsey, who plays a neurosurgeon on "Grey's Anatomy," pulled a teenage boy to safety after his car flipped over near the star's home. The victim, Weston Masset, later told ABC News that his first words upon seeing Dempsey pulling him out of the wreck were, "'Are you famous?" and Dempsey reportedly replied, "Yeah I'm a doctor." And, of course, Ryan Gosling added another rescue to his list last month when he saved a British journalist from being hit by a New York City cab. After the incident the woman tweeted: "I literally, literally just got saved from a car by Ryan Gosling. Literally. That actually just happened."
