On Tuesday, the cast and crew of "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" rolled into Washington D.C. to do some filming on the national mall, with the dome of the Capitol serving as their backdrop.
Fans and local press soon spotted the good Captain himself, Chris Evans, wearing a snug grey S.H.I.E.L.D. T-shirt and doing push-ups to keep himself pumped up between takes. Meanwhile, Scarlett Johansson, looking typically tough but sexy, was in costume as Black Widow. Anthony Mackie, who plays Falcon, was also on hand.
Given the expense and logistical difficulties that come with filming in Washington D.C. during a work day, many productions avoid it, but the sibling directing team of Anthony and Joe Russo apparently wanted some authentic atmosphere for the picture and were willing go the extra mile to get it. Plenty of locals came out to watch the filming, and a TV news crew caught some footage of the stars biding their time between takes. Reporters also spoke to the fans in attendance, including a woman who came out to catch a glimpse of Chris Evans and enthusiastically expressed her opinion that "he is foyne!" (She then had to explain to the reporter that "foyne" was her personal exaggeration of "fine, cute, handsome.")
While Evans, Johansson, and Mackie were in D.C. for the day's filming, there were no signs of co-stars Robert Redford, Samuel L. Jackson, or Sebastian Stan. In addition to Washington D.C., location shooting for "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" has also taken place in Cleveland and Los Angeles.
With "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" scheduled to arrive in theaters in April 2014, it's good to know that the Russo Brothers are apparently wasting no time and seeing to it that the film is completed on schedule. Maybe they could have a chat about getting their work done with Congress while they're in town?
