‘Bridesmaids’ Stars Reunite in the First ‘Friends With Kids’ Trailer

After "Bridesmaids" surprised Hollywood last summer with its mammoth $288 million worldwide gross, people began to speculate about a sequel. In just the last month, there have been rumors circulating that star Kristen Wiig does not want to return for a second film and the studio is considering making another without her.

Thankfully, you won't have to wait for a new "Bridesmaids" movie to see many of its stars back together on the big screen. Wiig, Jon Hamm, Maya Rudolph and Chris O'Dowd have all reunited for the comedy "Friends With Kids." It's the directorial debut of Jennifer Westfeldt -- Hamm's real-life longtime girlfriend -- who also stars opposite Adam Scott (TV's "Parks and Recreation").

The movie tells the story of three New York couples. Wiig and Hamm play newlyweds still in their honeymoon phase. Rudolph and O'Dowd are parents who have been together for a decade. And Westfeldt and Scott are two platonic friends who decide to have a child together and share custody without being in a relationship. It seems to work out for them, until they each meet attractive potential mates played by Edward Burns and Megan Fox.

Hamm and Westfeldt -- who have been together since 1997 but are not married -- produced this low-budget independent movie together. The pair told the New York Times that they always intended for Hamm to play a role in the movie, though they intentionally avoided him playing Westfeldt's romantic interest. That meant they had to squeeze filming in between seasons of "Mad Men," so they had to call on their off-screen friends to fill the roles. Hamm bonded with Wiig during his stints hosting "Saturday Night Live," which led to his small role in "Bridesmaids."

While "Friends With Kids" shares many actors with "Bridesmaids" -- along with its frank, R-rated language -- it does have a serious side. Westfeldt told Vulture that her film's unique tone is part of what attracted Wiig to the role. She said, "I know Kristen really wanted to do something that was different than she's done and I think it was more dramatic and less comedic than what she's done before."

That's not to say that there aren't a lot of laughs in the movie. Even Megan Fox, who isn't exactly known for her comedic chops, gets to show her funny side. Kristen Wiig told iVillage that Fox, whom she had previously worked with on "SNL," was "very laid back and super cool and has a good sense of humor." Wiig compared it to how Jon Hamm surprised audiences: "People know him from 'Mad Men' and when he first hosted 'SNL' people were like, 'Oh my gosh, and he's funny?' He's an actor, you know?"
