The sky's (or, rather, the sea's) apparently the limit with the new "Anchorman" as Will Ferrell and company are going into even more outrageous territory for one of this year's most anticipated sequels. Ferrell was photographed in full Ron Burgundy garb wrestling with a mechanical (OR IS IT?) shark on the Atlanta set of the film; this new opponent seems only appropriate upon recalling that Burgundy faced off with a bear in the original "Anchorman."
We can only imagine what series of events led to Burgundy ending up all wet and on the turf of this terrifying predator (that hopefully behaved better than the notoriously malfunctioning mechanical monstrosity used in "Jaws"). It's probably safe to assume that there's no rational explanation for this.
Plot details of "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" have been kept under wraps, though director Adam McKay has dropped a few hints here and there, including one involving a custody battle (a little Burgundy running around makes for an even more horrifying scenario than a shark attack). We also know that Kristen Wiig has been cast as a love interest for ever-smiling and ever-confused Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) and that Harrison Ford will be appearing as a legendary Tom Brokaw-esque newscaster. Nicole Kidman is also set for a cameo appearance and James Marsden will play a rival anchor and Burgundy's nemesis.
However, the shark might end up stealing the whole movie from this army of scene-stealers. We'll see.
"Anchorman: The Legend Continues" will hit theaters on December 20.
