This year's MTV Movie Awards seemed to have so much promise. But with a Twitter hate campaign raging, a conspicuously missing key star (Jennifer Lawrence where were you!?), and some just plain odd happenings, we were left with one thought: Whaaaaaa?

One of those moments came when Will Ferrell teetered on the offensive as he brought three children and woman on stage, saying, "I wouldn't be standing here before you without the love and support of my amazing family." The laugh was supposed to come out of the fact that they were Asian -- not Caucasian like Mr. Ferrell. And yes, the audience was – for better or for worse -- into it.

"Twilight" fans are speaking up and tuning out.

The popular teen series has historically been a MTV Movie Awards mainstay, racking up several nominations and winning Best Picture each of the four times it was nominated. But this year its final installment, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2," only received one nomination, and was completely left in the cold in the Best Picture category.

A real American hero gets the big-screen treatment he deserves this weekend as the Jackie Robinson biopic "42" opens wide.

"42" encapsulates the hardships and triumphs Robinson (Chadwick Boseman) faces on his way to breaking Major League Baseball's color barrier in 1947. The drama unfolds when Brooklyn Dodgers GM Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford) -- looking to fill seats, win ball games, and perhaps make history -- signs Robinson to a minor league contract. As he works his way up, Robinson fights inside pitches, rampant racism, and his own desire to fight back, only to see all those challenges exponentially quantified when he finally breaks into the big leagues.

When it comes to dominating the movie promotional circuit, Tom Cruise is a genuine pro who can always be counted on to deliver a most charming performance or interview with whichever talk show host he visits. Aside from two memorable instances in 2005 with "Today Show" host Matt Lauer and the infamous couch-jumping with Oprah Winfrey, no one channels the classic charming movie star persona like Cruise.

Case in point, his recent visit to "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Thursday (April 11) where during an interview pegged to his upcoming sci-fi thriller "Oblivion," Kimmel challenged the star to deliver a few mundane lines in his best movie star voice. And to his movie star credit, Cruise got into it and turned sentences like "Is there a way to get the soup and the salad?" and "You forgot to include the attachment" into dramatic mini-movie scenes.
