    • Some of the most popular viral videos are the ones that make you ask yourself, "Did that really happen?" This week, a buzzy clip on YouTube showed a guy apparently hacking into video screens in Times Square with just an iPhone and a piece of hardware the man calls a "video repeater." It's unbelievable, but the video looks thoroughly convincing. And so far the clip has been seen nearly 1.5 million times. Take a look for yourself:

So it is real? In a word: nope. What it is, in actuality, is a surprisingly effective bit of marketing for a movie. The video was created by a company called ThinkModo to promote this weekend's new release, "Limitless."

The original video was posted to YouTube on March 13, and there is barely anything in it to suggest that it's promoting a movie. The only clue is on the big video screen towards the end of the clip. As the unidentified man in orange jacket raises his "video repeater" up on a balloon, before he takes over the screen it is showing the trailer

    • SXSW 2011 Interview: Joe Cornish Introduces Austin to ‘Attack the Block’

'Attack the Block' Optimum Releasing'Attack the Block' Optimum ReleasingTerritorialism is at the heart of "Attack the Block," a darkly comic thriller that has generated some serious buzz at SXSW 2011. Making his big screen directorial debut, Cornish has created a film with a premise torn from headlines in the United Kingdom. "It's very much made with the kids that appear in it in mind," Cornish said during a breakfast roundtable during SXSW.

"Attack the Block" focuses on a group of kids that the local London newspapers calls 'hoodies,' so named because of the hooded sweatshirts they favor. Hoodies typically 'claim' a neighborhood for their own, terrorizing the residents with threats of violence. In this case, however, alien invaders land all over their block, staking their own claim.

"The issue of territorialism is a big thing, especially with these young gangs in the UK. And it is not something I would want to encourage or be frivolous about because it is a serious thing," Cornish said. "One of the messages in the film is that these creatures are

    • ‘The Wolverine’ Loses Its Director

Director Darren Aronofsky Fox Searchlight PicturesDirector Darren Aronofsky Fox Searchlight Pictures"Black Swan" director Darren Aronofsky has bowed out of shooting 20th Century

Fox's sequel "The Wolverine," starring Hugh Jackman, according to The Hollywood

      Reporter.

In a joint statement with Fox, Aronofsky told THR Thursday: "As

I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, it became clear that

the production of The Wolverine would keep me out of the country for almost a

year," Aronofsky said in a joint statement with Fox Thursday. "I was not

comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I

won't be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was

very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman,

      again."

A Fox spokesperson said the studio is "disappointed," but noted:

"Having done both 'The Wrestler' and 'Black Swan' with Darren, we know he is an

extraordinary talent and we look forward to working with him on other projects

      in the future."'

    • Studios’ and Netflix’s Newest Threat: $1 Online Rentals From Zediva

'The Fighter' Paramount Pictures'The Fighter' Paramount Pictures

NEW YORK - New online film rental service Zediva, which offers current DVD titles for as low as $1, may become the latest headache for Hollywood studios and the latest challenger to Netflix, DVD rental firms and cable video on demand services.

Zediva, which just went live to a broader audience after a year-long beta trial with what it says were a few thousand beta users, allows users to watch movies, which are newly released on DVD, via the Internet - on computers and select Internet-connected TVs, Blu-ray players and other devices - without the delays of other services.

On its Web site, the company uses the tag line "New Movies Now" and also highlights that it is offering "new movies before Netflix and Redbox." It buys the DVDs via retail stores and other outlets, thereby making films available quickly. Its site on Wednesday mentioned such current DVD releases as The Fighter, Hereafter and 127 Hours. The company says

    • Exclusive: Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott, Eugene Levy Reunite for New ‘American Pie’

'American Pie' Universal Pictures/Everett Collection'American Pie' Universal Pictures/Everett CollectionKey members of the original cast of "American Pie" will reunite for "American Reunion," which will bring the popular franchise back to movie theaters, rather than direct-to-DVD, TheWrap has learned.

Jason Biggs, Seann William Scott and Eugene Levy are already signed, with Universal in negotiations with Thomas Ian Nicholas, Tara Reid, Chris Klein, Mena Suvari and Jennifer Coolidge.

The studio is hoping to bring back most of the original cast, including Alyson Hannigan, who currently plays Lily Aldrin in CBS's "How I Met Your Mother," and Shannen Elizabeth.

The movie has a start date of May 24.

Scott, who played Steve Stifler in the first three installments in the franchise, checked himself into a treatment program "to address health and personal issues," the actor announced Tuesday. An individual close to the production says this is not expected to affect the production.

"Harold & Kumar's" Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are writing and directing. Chris Moore and Craig Perry will

      starring role since 2002.

Now, in one of her most candid interviews ever,

Foster -- who debuts her dramedy Wednesday at the SXSW Film Festival -- opens up

to The Hollywood Reporter about the movie, the troubled actor and what she knew

      when.

      "I

know him in a very complex way," Foster says of Gibson, who on March 11 pleaded

no contest to one misdemeanor count of domestic violence allegedly committed

against ex Oksana Grigorieva last year. "He's a real person; he's not a

cardboard cutout. I know that he has troubles, and when you love somebody you

don't just walk away from them when they are struggling."

      Foster says

Gibson wasn't originally in the running for The Beaver - due out May 6, with a

wider release on May 20 — about a troubled man who tries to get his life back on

    • Why Disney’s ‘Mars Needs Moms’ Bombed

"Mars Needs Moms" Courtesy THR/Disney"Mars Needs Moms" Courtesy THR/DisneyIn the weeks leading up to

the release of "Mars Needs Moms," Disney knew interest in the film was

tepid at best. But no one was prepared for such a disastrous box office wipeout.

From a financial standpoint, "Mars" could be one of the biggest

write-offs in modern Hollywood history, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The motion-capture animated film cost $150 million to produce but earned

only $6.9 million in its debut at the domestic box office, the 12th worst

opening of all time for a movie released in more than 3,000 theaters and one of

the lowest openings for a major 3D release.

The price tag doesn't include a hefty marketing spend. All told, Disney has

likely invested $200 million or more in the motion capture pic, made by

      Robert Zemeckis' now-shuttered ImageMovers Digital.

"The right audience came, but not in the numbers we needed," Disney

president of worldwide distribution Chuck Viane said. "I'm

disappointed for the filmmakers. They spent at least two years of their lives

    • Sony's little-green-men invasion movie "Battle: Los Angeles" beat
tracking and had a solid North American debut this weekend, grossing $36
million and leading the domestic box office, according to Sunday studio
      estimates.

But Disney's family film "Mars Needs Moms" found no traction at the
box office, grossing just $6.8 million, one of the studio's biggest
misses in years. Produced by Robert Zemeckis at a cost of more than $150
million, the film probably won't find much solace in the foreign
market, where it debuted to only $2.1 million.

Also opening wide this weekend, Warner's "Little Red Riding Hood,"
which stars Amanda Seyfried, performed below tracking in the high-teens
      range, grossing just $14.1 million.

    • Spielberg Returns To Directing with ‘War Horse’

Steven Spielberg on set DreamWorks PicturesSteven Spielberg on set DreamWorks PicturesAfter an

absence of three years from the silver screen, Steven Spielberg is set to release

not one but two movies in 2011.

      The first

is "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn," which he's

directing in collaboration with Peter Jackson. Based on the popular comic

series by Belgian graphic artist Herge, "Tintin" looks like it'll be the

sort of computer-effects-heavy, crowd-pleasing spectacle that Spielberg first became

      known for.

      The other

movie, "War Horse," adapted from the popular 1982 book by Michael

Morpurgo, appears to be in the vein of serious, critically friendly dramas more

recently associated with Spielberg. Think "Saving Private Ryan" or "Munich." This one

centers on a young man whose horse (named Joey) is shipped off to the trenches

of World War I. The book is told from the point of view of the horse, and the

author reportedly spent five years trying to adapt his novel before giving up.

      We'll have

to wait until this winter to see how Spielberg translates the tale
