"Well, it's Groundhog Day... again," said Phil Connors, played by Bill Murray, in 1993's "Groundhog Day."

February 12 marks the 20th anniversary of the release of the romantic comedy that had Murray reliving the same day over and over again until he finally learned how to be a better man.

The longtime DC Comics scribe is calling it quits on writing "Green Lantern," a title he's been associated with since 2004. Johns, who is also DC's Chief Creative Officer, will be leaving the series to concentrate on "Justice League."
Johns first started writing for "Green Lantern" back in 2004 with the six-issue mini-series, "Green Lantern: Rebirth," which is credited with bringing such series characters as Guy Gardner, Kyle Raner, John Stewart and especially Hal Jordan (considered to be the most popular of the Green Lanterns, if not the all-time fan favorite) back to the forefront of DC Comics lore. The mini-series also explored the convoluted six-decade history of the Green Lantern Corps, a team of cosmic guardians with powerful rings that give them various supernatural abilities.

Photo: GettyFinally, Sandra Bullock is getting the chance to show the dark side that those who suffered through “Hope Floats” always knew she possessed. The perennially sunny star will voice Scarlet Overkill, the resident super-villain of “Minions,” the upcoming spin-off of 2010’s “Despicable Me.”

As Deadline reports, Bullock’s character will pair high fashion with sky-high ambitions to become the world’s first lady super-villain. Set in the 1960s, the animated comedy will feature its title characters vying for the opportunity to be Bullock’s henchmen, a job previously held by Jesse James. The 3D CG film, which will be directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, is a production of Universal and Illumination Entertainment. It’s scheduled to be released on December 19, 2014; in the meantime, “Despicable Me 2,” starring Steve Carell, Kristen Wiig, and Al Pacino, will hit screens on July 3 of this year and attempt to surpass the $540 million the original made worldwide.

Director Bryan Singer, who's returning to the "X-Men" franchise after a ten-year absence, has conjured quite the ensemble cast for his homecoming project, "X-Men: Days of Future Past." But while the mutant lineup features familiar faces from both the original "X-Men" trilogy and "X-Men: First Class," there is one graduate of Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters that's noticeably missing (for now, anyway): Ororo Munroe, aka Storm, played by Halle Berry.

It's exciting that Disney's resurrection of "Star Wars" is going to involve new recruits to the franchise like director J.J. Abrams and screenwriter Simon Kinberg. But there's also a certain comfort in the fact that old war horses (or old Tauntauns, rather?) like Lawrence Kasdan are going to be around to keep things from getting too whippersnapper-ish.
