As movies are increasingly going digital, from production to projection, we're seeing a wave of nostalgia for the physical medium of film. Last year, a French silent movie, "The Artist," vied for the Best Picture Oscar with "Hugo," a drama about filmmaking pioneer George Méliès. This year saw the release of Miguel Gomes's "Tabu," a festival fave coming from Portugal that was shot in part with 16 mm cameras without sync sound. And coming out this month is"Blancanieves," a silent movie from Spain. Like "The Artist," this movie is a gorgeously shot homage to early cinema complete with black-and-white photography, iris shoots, and intertitles. Unlike "The Artist," which is so ingratiating that it becomes irritating, "Blancanieves" is a strange, dark work that doesn't quite have a fairy-tale ending.

Good news, Autobot fans! "Transformers 4" is a go, and word has been leaked on what will be happening in the next installment of the franchise. The source? The good people at the Michigan Film Office.

The State of Michigan offers tax incentives and some degree of official cooperation to deserving filmmakers who come to the Mitten State to make movies. On Wednesday, the Michigan Film Office's official website not only broke the news that Michael Bay will be shooting the next "Transformers" picture in the Detroit area (as he did with the first film in the series in 2007 and "Transformers: Dark Of The Moon" in 2011), but offered some clues about what we can expect to see in "Transformers 4." Given that Bay, Hasbro, and Paramount Pictures have been very tight lipped about the story so far (the picture doesn't even have an official title at this time), this comes as a major surprise for fans.

Director J.J. Abrams' take on the "Star Trek" galaxy changed a lot from the early incarnations, but one thing has stayed the same: Captain Kirk's way with the ladies.

The new international trailer for "Star Trek Into Darkness" makes for one of the final teasers of the highly anticipated sequel before it actually hits theaters in May. And while this preview gives us a better sense of the top-secret plot, it's the very revealing shot of Kirk's new love interest that's raising eyebrows (even Spock's pointed ones). With "The Croods" opening this weekend, Nicolas Cage takes yet another quirky turn in perhaps the quirkiest film career ever. Cage gives voice to Grug, the animated pre-historic patriarch of the Croods, a family of Neanderthals who are forced from the relative safety of their cave and set off on an epic adventure to find a new home.

It's fitting that Dreamworks decided to animate Cage, because we can think of few actors more cartoonish. Don't believe us? Here's five facts about the man which best illustrate our point.
