    Box Office Knock Out

12/30/2011 – The Top Ten Highest Grossing Films of 2011

Top Ten of 2011(Photo: Warner Bros., Summit Entertainment, Walt Disney Pictures, Paramount Pictures)

Usually on "Box Office Knock Out," we look ahead to the movies that are hitting theaters.  But to end the year, we're looking back at the top ten highest grossing films for 2011.

Check out our Holiday Movie Guide >>

It wasn't exactly a great year for originality, seeing as how every movie in the top ten was a sequel, an adaptation, or both.  There are two Marvel Comics movies on the list -- the third, "X-Men: First Class," came in at number 14 for the year.  You'll also find a pair of part twos, a three, a four and a five in the rankings, along with the first half of the final chapter of one epic franchise, and the ultimate conclusion to another.  In fact, the highest earning movie with a screenplay not based on another source was "Bridesmaids," which is ranked at #12.

Twilight made THAT amount of money? Wow, I didn't know there were that many immature girls, and that many boys trying to get into their pants, in America, Ha!

They post videos because you can't ignore the ads and Yahoo gets more ad $ for them. The web is one big billboard and is always for sale. I'm just waiting for the first country to put the first ad on the moon.

I gave up on going to the movies for a number of reasons. First the tickets are too exspensive, the food is greasy and insanely priced and there are always cell phones going off and people talking over the movie. I'll wait for it to come to cable, then I can watch it at home eating decent food and drink my Diet/Caffine Free Dr. Pepper without phones ringing and being forced to hear people talk on their stupid cell phones.

we eat before we go to the movies. i dont mind the 8 bucks a ticket for the good movies. plus out theater has a strict no phone rule, if it rings they can kick u out

Most movies are directed at kids these days; they comprise the biggest movie audience. None of those interest me. So few movies are made for adults now (I'm 57.) "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" looked like I might give it a chance. But, its long running time (a bladder busting, prostate breaking two hours and 40 minutes) combined with high ticket prices scared me away. I wanted to see "Cowboys and Aliens" last summer, but I balked at the $11 ticket price. For a matinee. Food at the movies isn't a problem; I don't eat popcorn any more, since a stray kernel broke my molar back in 2005.

Well I haven't seen one of these movies. I MUST be getting old. I have a question, did any of them have a chance for and oscar nomination?

Harry Potter was the best hands down but I like ON Stranger Tides too not the best Caribbean movie but it was still good!

I've been part of both the HP insanity and the Twilight insanity, and I have to say, HP was WAY more entertaining! Mainly because I've been watching HP since I was 5, and it never got boring. Twilight, I was 12, and it got boring. I'm not even into Twilight anymore. If I watch the last two movies, it'll be because I'm curious(since I read the book), not because I actually want to watch them. HP was better than Twilight hands down.
