    Box Office Knock Out

    12/16/2011 – ‘Sherlock’ Star’s English-Language Debut

Noomi Rapace and Robert Downey Jr.The American version of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" hits theaters next week, but this weekend the original Lisbeth Salander is working on another mystery. Noomi Rapace, the actress who gained international acclaim in the Swedish film version of "The Millennium Trilogy," makes her English-language debut in "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows." And that is especially impressive if you consider she didn't even speak the language just a few years ago.

    Exclusive 'Sherlock' cast interview >>

Find out why Robert Downey Jr. and director Guy Ritchie say Rapace was the perfect choice for the "Sherlock" sequel, plus where we deduce the movie will wind up in the charts in this week's "Box Office Knock Out."

I agree. I watched all three in Swedish (w/ subtitles, of course). The US versions will suck in comparison.

Hmmm...Its amazing how everyone can forsee that a movie is going to suck just because of where it was made...and that it is a remake...Well, I can't wait to see the US version...At least I won't have to worry about subtitles...and can concentrate on the action.

Noomi Rapace is going to be a "fan tastic" actress. The woman has a lot of personality and physical pazazz.

she already is a greatest artist!
      • Dr. Zook 5 months ago
She already is a fantastic actress. Did you not see "Män Som Hatar Kvinnor" called "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" as an English title? Her performance in that film was amazing.

reply to Asiko - Noomi is your typical Japanese heroine. Aligato Gozaimas.

I think the critics have it all wrong. This Sherlock movie is better than the last one. The audience clapped at the end which seldom happens. The music was primo amazing. The filming techniques new and amazing. The cast is outstanding. No other recent movie comes even close to this level of engaging storytelling.

which critics? They're saying it's going to be no. 1 so who are you talking about? Oh and I agree, I think this Sherlock movie is going to be good.

'Sherlock'" was fun to watch but not a great movie at all!!! Also, MIA-4 Fun to watch!! But outstanding movies were the following: The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo", Moneyball, Midnight In Paris, Drive, Trust, Warrior, Horribal Bosses, and "Clooney" had two films which were very good.

Just returned from the Sherlock movie, oh my! I still love the "old" style Sherlock movies, but this had many funny lines. The stop action did get to be a bit too much, but what do I know? I give this a "6" compared to a "1" for the first one! So have fun but don't look for any serious Sherlock moves!

The jerky action and constant stop action were way too over the top for the first one, I couldn't get through it. I wouldn't watch the sequel.

i agree, the stop motion stuff was a little overdone. but, goodness, this is the first time I can say the sequel was actually better than the first one! everything was cranked up a notch - the villains, sets, fights, costumes - and Holmes was three times as bada$$. wow!

It was fun to watch and that's what it's all about!!!!!!

Saw Dragon last night and it was Good!!! MIA-4 was outstanding "Cruise' did it again and adding Jermey Renner to this cast was a great move, because this guy is a Dam good actor. Sherlock Holmes was fun to watch, because of the Non-stop action!!! "Cruise" haters get a life--It's about acting not 'WHO you dislike as a person!! I don't like Tom Cruise's personal life or choices, but this guy is an Outstanding actor with the resume to back it up!!!!

She was awesome in that movie. I'm definitely not going to watch the remake, there was no need for a remake.

Why not...Maybe not all of us speak Swedish...or enjoy subtitles...

Hey Rod, some people with a whole lot more money and brains than you have think different. You might want to wonder why.

I was amazed she learned English within a year to do this movie.

My girlfriend and I saw all 3 films. I knew nothing about the books. My gf read all 3 so we used Netflix to get the movies. I have to say I thought it was going to be chick movie hell but they were actually very well done. Way better than most of the Hollywood garbage we get shoveled to us.

Noomi Rapace was an excellent actress and I thought she was very brave to do the roles, especially with all the sexual violence and nudity. 99% of the actresses in this country would have demanded a body double!

I hope these remakes will be done properly and not 'Americanized' or Bay'd or Bruckheimer'd! Any moron can do that.

I read all 3 'dragon tattoo' books and saw all 3 movies, they were slightly above average, certainly not great. In fact the acting become worse on each successive movie which was really odd. The movies need a Hollywood remake.
    • CRAWDAD  •  5 months ago
She was great in the series, anybody planning on seeing the remakes, should consider the originals first.
    • mostafa  •  5 months ago
She's don't need to be in some movie's like this !!!!
    • StanN  •  5 months ago
Actually, not only did we see Noomi Rapace in Sherlock Holmes we also saw Mikael Nyqvist in Mission Impossible this week. Its nice to see them cash in on their fame.
    • Elaine  •  5 months ago
She did the trilogy for Dragon Tatoo, and did a wonderful job. The remake, is a shameful second rate job.
    • John Carter  •  5 months ago
I wish this lady all the wonderful praise and successes that come with great performance/acting. Truly, she kept this trilogy alive.
