    11/11/2011 – Leonardo DiCaprio’s Riskiest Role?

Leonardo DiCaprioPhoto: Warner Bros. PicturesLeonardo DiCaprio has been an A-list movie star ever since "Titanic" made him a household name 14 years ago.  Since then he's made more huge blockbusters and earned three Oscar nominations.  But his latest role in "J. Edgar," the biography of controversial FBI director J. Edgar Hoover directed by Clint Eastwood, is a character unlike any he's played before.

Video: 'J. Edgar' Trailers and Clips >>

DiCaprio ages over 50 years through the course of the film, and there is one edgy scene that really pushes the envelope.  Find out why DiCaprio took on this perilous part, and which films we predict will land in this weekend's top five in today's "Box Office Knock Out."

Yet another article written by a person refusing to do any kind of research what-so-ever. DiCaprio actually had several weird kissing scenes between himself and method actor David Thewlis back in 1997 in the film 'Total Eclipse', in which DiCaprio played 19th century French poet Arthur Rimbaud and Thewlis played his on-again-off-again lover Paul Verlaine. We, the audience, are even treated to a full-frontal nude scene with DiCaprio hanging out a second-story(or third) window yelling sweet nothings to Verlaine! As for baking soda boy, Armie Hammer (real name Armand Douglas Hammer), this is an absolute first for him, which makes it all the more hotter (my apologizes to his wife)! So, there it is. To Yahoo! Movies, all I have to say is that Wikipedia is a free service. Try using it every once in awhile, mmmmkay? Later.

What is it going take, him to turn 45 or 50 before he starts losing his boyish looks. He could pass for late 20's easily.

you seem jealous, isn't it nice to look young? anything wrong with this?

Does't sound jealous to me. Sounds like he/she is just poiting out the obvious. Please stop overanalyzing for things to complain about- it's just not healthy for the Mind.

This article is false. Leo kissed a man (sucked face) in Total Eclipse. The clip is on YouTube.
      • Dana p 6 months ago
That's the first thing I thought of. The only difference is that he wasn't as famous when he made that movie.

        sucked face? really?

Regardless of what other people think, I think he's an awesome actor. "The Departed" is one of his best and I will definitely go see "J. Edgar". I wouldn't say the scene they are talking about is risky. It's all part of the business. It's called acting.

        Its all hype.

The scene is all about five seconds!!! It was a good movie but I expected more from the great "Eastwood" But Leo was outstanding!!!! And the 'THE DEPARTED" was a great movie and performance!!!!

      Looks like he is constipated

Didn't Leo play a gay poet in the movie Total Eclipse? There were several sex scenes between he and his male co-star. I don't remember if they kissed. But the scenes were kinda graphic. So why would a kiss in J. Edgar be any more risky?
      • J T 6 months ago
        trying to hype the movie...........
      • Valerie 6 months ago
It's risky for the of not the subject matter, the kiss, but the subject himself, J. Edgar Hoover.
      • Ralph 6 months ago
        J. Edgar Hoover was a gay bigot thug.

No risk makes Leo a dull boy. We all like to shake things up, career wise, otherwise it gets old fast.

Its certainly WAS NOT Leonardo's first on-screen kiss with another guy!

If you think this role was controversial, wait until Django Unchained comes out with Leo as a vicious slave trader in the 19th century American south. Tarantino's balls haven't withered into making predestrian flicks...like some.

His portrayal of Howard Hughes a few years back was pretty intense. I may want to see that one again before this one just to see how he gets into each of these controversial historical characters.

J.Edgar was a good movie with two outstanding performances from DiCaprio and Hammer!! But this was not "Eastwoods" best work!! The "STUPID" comments are from people that want to create "CONTROVERSY" And it's the Cheap ones, 'Who won't even see this movie or any other Movie!!! The "HOMOSEXUAL" part was "FIVE SECONDS" I would never watch "BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN" And J.Edgar should not be listed with that JUNK!!!!

Everyone here obviously missed a movie by this guy where he plays a french poet having homosexual sex with other actors...it is brutal, realistic, savage...and it came just a little bit before titanic....

Give me a break...Straight actors going gay is pretty pro-forma any more.

Hoover dated Lana Turner's mother for a while. Applicants to the FBI were not hired if it was determined they were gay. Homosexual acts by employees resulted in being fired. Hoover considered those at the CIA to be gay and made disparaging comments to that effect. Hoover was a dedicated bachelor, for whatever reason. There was never information inside the FBI that Hoover was gay. It would almost certainly have been known and discussed if that were the case. Was he gay? Who knows? If he was, he was dedicated to Tolson and kept any homosexual activity confined to within the four walls of his home. He was eccentric, no doubt, but that does not mean he was homosexual. Are all "old bachelors" and "old maids" gay? I think not. Some are, some aren't. My objection to the movie is depicting Hoover as gay, when there is no definitive proof he was. If you are going to produce a biography in any form, be true to your subject. Don't present aspects of a person's life as fact when they are based only on conjecture, innuendo and rumor.

Hoover was portrayed in Public Enemies as gay and he was. Makes you wonder about his effectiveness and motives as FBI director.
    • BrendaL  •  6 months ago
Hoover was a very dangerous man, and we are better nation without people like him--little Caesars who think they are above the law. I don't care about his sexual orientation at all. No man or woman should have the power he wielded. He was a product of his time.
