Sylverster Stallone as John Rambo in 'First Blood' (Photo: Everett Collection)Thirty years ago Monday, "First Blood" hit movie screens, introducing audiences to John Rambo, the embattled Vietnam veteran played on screen by Sylvester Stallone. The movie was an enormous hit, earning $125 million worldwide on just a $14 million budget. The violent, R-rated action thriller spawned three sequels, video games, and, improbably, an animated series for kids. And it established Stallone as a major Hollywood star outside of his "Rocky" series. But none of that might have happened if they had stuck with the original ending for the movie where Rambo didn't survive.

Robert Zemeckis, director of 'Flight' (Photo: Amanda Edwards/WireImage, Paramount Pictures)Robert Zemeckis made some of the biggest hits of the '80s and '90s, including the "Back to the Future" trilogy, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" and the Oscar-winning "Forrest Gump." His work displayed a signature style that blended humor, action, emotion, and cutting-edge special effects. But he shifted course in his career with 2004's "The Polar Express," the first feature film done using performance-capture technology. He went on to make two more completely digital films, "Beowulf" and "A Christmas Carol," but now he's returning to the physical world for his first live-action film since 2000's "Cast Away."
The project is called "Flight," and it stars Denzel Washington as Whip Whitaker, an airline pilot who is able to miraculously land a jetliner after a mechanical failure sends it plummeting to the ground. Whitaker is hailed as a hero at first, but when revelations about his personal life surface, he finds himself heading into an even more dangerous tailspin.

Naomie Harris in 'Pirates' and 'Skyfall' (Photo: Walt Disney Pictures/Columbia Pictures)She starred in a pair of movies that made $2 billion worldwide, and you probably wouldn't recognize her if you saw her on the street. Her name is Naomie Harris, and her face is about to get a lot more familiar.
Harris played Tia Dalma, the witchy woman (who was actually the physical embodiment of the sea goddess, Calypso) in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequels "Dead Man's Chest" and "At World's End." With her long dreadlocks, face markings, bloodshot eyes, and very bad teeth, Harris was hardly identifiable as the character.

(Photo: Warner Bros.)"Little Shop of Horrors," the movie adaptation of the off-Broadway hit musical (which was itself an adaptation of a low-budget cult classic), wasn't a big hit when it first appeared on the big screen in 1986. But the oddball story of a man-eating plant gained a dedicated fan following on home video.Even if you're a "Little Shop" devotee who memorized every song and wore out your VHS copy, you still haven't seen the whole movie. That's because the original ending to the film was cut entirely after it failed with test audiences. But now, 26 years later, the long-lost finale can finally be seen in the new "Little Shop of Horrors" Director's Cut on Blu-ray.
