    The embattled “Cloud Atlas,” which opened to polarized audience reaction and commercial nonexistence in the US in October, faces a new challenge in China. The centuries-spanning ensemble saga from directors Tom Tykwer and Andy & Lana Wachowski has been trimmed by almost 40 minutes from its original length by Chinese censors.

  • Rutger Hauer goes back to ‘The Future’ at Sundance

Just a few days before his 69th birthday, Hauer's dandyish hairstyle, his checkered jacket, and printed scarf with a razor blade pattern cut a sharp contrast with the lovely 29-year-old Martelli's comparatively demure and nondescript ensemble.

    The pair were photographed at the Sundance premiere of “Il Futuro (The Future),” described as “wildly impressionistic” and featuring “bizarre cinematography,” in light of which Hauer's flamboyantly strange dress seems to be quite fitting

    Disney has unveiled a massive, wildly ambitious new video game project, one of great potential interest to movie fans. In June, they plan to release "Disney Infinity," an interlocking group of multiplayer games -- across all available platforms -- in which, once all the games are released, literally every Disney and Pixar character that has ever appeared on film will be playable.

  • ‘Star Wars,’ ‘Avengers’ and ‘Pirates’: Disney has a very busy slate

    Disney is looking to have a very busy 2014-15. Within a year and a half, there will be a new Muppet movie, a “Captain America” sequel, the long-awaited Marvel comics adaptation “Guardians of the Galaxy,” a follow-up to “Sleeping Beauty,” and a new “Pirates of the Caribbean” film. That doesn't even include “1952,” a Damon Lindelof-scripted, Brad Bird-directed flick starring George Clooney.

  • The strange tale of John McAfee hitting the big screen

    The strange saga of software tycoon John McAfee, chronicled in a piece in Wired magazine, is coming to the big screen. Warner Bros secured the film rights and are said to be close to finalizing a deal to hire “Crazy, Stupid, Love” writer-directors Glenn Ficara and John Requa to adapt the Wired article, “John McAfee's Last Stand.”

  • ‘Jurassic Park 4′ gets a release date

    Universal Pictures has announced a release date for “Jurassic Park 4.” The latest installment will see the latest encounter between man and dinosaur, in 3D, on June 13th, 2014. No director is yet attached, but now that a script has been submitted by writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, the search will begin.

  • Sundance Film Fest could be expanding to Brooklyn

Robert Redford's Sundance Institute, which has been having “Sundance Institute at BAM” screenings at the Brooklyn Academy of Music since 2006, is in negotiations to develop facilities in Brooklyn's DUMBO neighborhood to possibly compete with Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal's Tribeca Film Festival, the New York Post reports.

  • Tina Fey rumored to appear in new ‘Muppets’ movie

    Photo: WireImage“SNL” emeritus and “30 Rock” showrunner/star Tina Fey is very close to joining the cast of Disney new “Muppets” movie, which aside from the Muppets themselves also includes Ricky Gervais and “Modern Family”'s Ty Burrell. The script is being kept under tight security but sources say the character Fey will be playing is a Russian prison guard.

    The new “Muppets” movie is said to feature the titular beloved brood on an adventure in Europe. Mark Bobin, the director of the highly successful 2011 “The Muppets” is returning, as is his co-writer Nicholas Stoller. Production begins in London this month.

    Tina Fey can also be seen co-hosting the Golden Globes this Sunday with frequent collaborator Amy Poehler. The “30 Rock” series finale is due to air January 31st.

  • Lincoln leads the BAFTA nominations

    Britain’s answer to the Oscars, the BAFTA -- short for the British Academy of Film & Television Arts -- announced its  nominations today and “Lincoln” received the most with 10. But in a shocking turn of events, Steven Spielberg wound up without one in the director’s category. Other notable multiple nominees include “Les Miserables” and “Life of Pi” with 9 each, “Skyfall” with a surprising 8, “Anna Karenina” and “Argo” with 6,  “Django Unchained” and “Zero Dark Thirty” with 5, “The Master” with a robust 4, the same total as “Amour,” with 3 for “Silver Linings Playbook.”
