When Kerry Washington arrived at this week's Metropolitan Gala with punky purple streaks in her hair, she shocked some people. Not us! We know there are a lot of layers to this actress -- she has a Phi Beta Kappa from George Washington University -- who's dominating this year on screens big and small.

On TV, the aptly-named Washington owns the sexy D.C. drama "Scandal." During Oscar season, she rode the red carpet as the only major female star in Quentin Tarantino's Oscar-winning antebellum revenge fantasy "Django Unchained." And, now, with a glamorous shake of her head, the Bronx-born beauty gets laughs in "Peeples," an upscale African American meet-the-parents comedy co-starring Craig Robinson.

Watching "Stories We Tell" feels like sharing a comfy couch beside a close friend -- who happens to be an amazing storyteller with a show-stopping secret. In her third film as a writer-director ("Away From Her," "Take This Waltz"), the Canadian actress Sarah Polley, 34, uses nonfiction to unknot her shocking family history. Because her parents, Michael and Diane Polley, were theater people, the revelations also played out on a public stage.

In an Internet-obsessed age when it seems as though too many people seek fame via viral videos, it's easy to forget that there are plenty of people out there who didn't intend for certain videos to end up online and became Internet famous for something deeply embarrassing. Case in point the "Star Wars kid," Ghyslain Raza, who was made Internet famous ten years ago when a video of him yielding a gold club retriever as a lightsaber hit the Interwebs.

And prognosticators are betting the Robert Downey Jr. comic book flick will easily beat Leonardo DiCaprio as the star of the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel adaptation, making "Iron Man" a likely candidate as the No. 1 film its second weekend running. ("Gatsby" is set to open at an estimated $30 million, according to Variety -- not too shabby.)

When it comes to these two films fighting it out, there are a few other grudge matches we've concocted that pit the leading men – an their respective fictional counterparts -- against each other in battles of the bucks.

'Photo: The Weinstein CompanyWhoever coined the term 'Oscar bait' definitely had a movie like "August: Osage County" in mind when they did so, especially now that we've had our first glimpse at the trailer. Really for anyone who has been following the film, based on the Pulitzer and Tony Award-winning play by Tracy Letts, who also wrote the screenplay, the stars are so brightly lined-up for this project that a lot of award nominations should already be reserved.
