Ben Affleck taking home the Oscar for Best Picture for "Argo" came as no surprise. In fact, the win marks pretty familiar territory for Affleck, who has come full circle back to being an Academy Awards darling after a handful of wrong (and some really wrong) turns in his life and career.

Affleck was first on the Oscar stage 15 years ago, when he and Matt Damon won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for "Good Will Hunting." Affleck was 25 at the time, already with a few decent film credits under his, and filled with a certain youthful exuberance.

Or, some might say, cockiness.

How the heck did they keep Michelle Obama under wraps?

It was done in a style similar to Bill Clinton's surprise appearance at the recent Golden Globe Awards. In that case, it was "Lincoln" director Steven Spielberg who convinced Clinton to appear and speak about his film. This time around it was Harvey Weinstein.

In a statement after the telecast, the White House didn't give up the secret, but did say: "The Academy Awards approached the first lady about being a part of the ceremony. As a movie lover, she was honored to present the award and celebrate the artists who inspire us all – especially our young people – with their passion, skill and imagination." Obama presented the award via satellite from Washington, D.C.

Oscar office pools are now in complete and total anarchic disarray with the Academy Award for Sound Editing going to not one but two winners.

Mark Wahlberg and his best friend Ted surprised the attendees (and millions of viewers) at the 84th Annual Academy Awards with the announcement that the Oscar for Best Sound Editing went to both "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Skyfall," two completely different movies about secret agents on secret missions.

Live-tweeting is like open mike night for comedians (or aspiring humorists) with Internet access. And the Oscars is no different. From the red carpet to the awards themselves, everyone jumped online Sunday night with jokes to share.

We all knew Seth MacFarlane, creator of the often off-color "Family Guy," wasn't going to tell knock-knock jokes at the 85th Annual Academy Awards. But we doubt few were prepared for the number of potentially offensive jokes MacFarlane tossed into the audience. Because no bad joke deserves to be forgotten, a recap of six of the most awkward.

7. That joke about Mel Gibson.

MacFarlane joked that "Django Unchained," a film in which the N-word was repeated dozens of times, was based on some of Mel Gibson's old voicemails. The joke might have worked had it been told in the immediate wake of the Gibson scandal. But in 2013, it felt like a one-liner that had been in the freezer for far too long.

Long, kind of lifeless, kind of stringy blond hair. It was the look of the night. And not just the women.

Jennifer Aniston and Barbra Steisand both wore their hair long with a part, and it wasn't especially flattering on either of them. Babs' dye job in particular wasn't doing her any favors. But the two usually fabulous ladies weren't alone in letting their hair down tonight.

Fun fact: Yahoo! Movies' assigned seat inside the Oscar 2013 press room was next to none other than... David Arquette!

Arquette initially said he was covering the Oscars for Sirius Satellite Radio. But, after a little prodding, he later revealed to Yahoo! that he's good friends with Howard Stern and is filing reports for his show. "They asked me to do it for Howard 100 News."

The assignment -- surprisingly -- has a lot to do with his current love life: "I'm dating a reporter," Arquette told us during a break in the show. "It's an interesting world for me."
