As Jodie Foster accepted her Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in film at Sunday night's Golden Globes show, she stunned the crowd with a verbose, revealing speech about both her sexuality and her desire for privacy.

In a fake-out moment, while everyone held their breath as it seemed Foster was going to officially come out of the closet, the 50-year-old actress-director proclaimed, "I'm single!" Foster later made special mention of her ex, film producer Cydney Bernard, calling her a "co-parent and ex-partner in love." (See the full transcript.)

Mentioned very little in the press, here are five things to know about the woman Foster mentioned in her speech:

1) Foster met Bernard in 1992 on the set of the film "Sommersby." The two began dating seriously. Bernard was a production coordinator on the film and Foster, who appeared onscreen with Richard Gere, was the star. The two reportedly broke up in 2008.

2) The 2013 Globes is not the first venue in which Foster has paid

"Girls" rule, every other comedy drools at the 2013 Golden Globe awards.

The acclaimed HBO show pulled off major upsets in its first year, winning Best Comedy and Best Comedy Actress for Lena Dunham.

"Aaagh!" Dunham screamed as she took the top comedy award. "I'm standing here with the greatest collaborators anyone could ever ask for."

"Girls" beat last year's winner, heavyweight "Modern Family," as well as "The Big Bang Theory," "Episodes," and "Smash."

When Dunham herself triumphed over Globe co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Zooey Deschanel, she said all of them helped her get through "middle school, mono, and a ruptured eardrum." (Fey later pretended to be offended by the middle school mention.)

Mandy Patinkin lost the supporting actor award, but otherwise, it was a sweep of the TV drama statues for Showtime's "Homeland" at the Golden Globe Awards.

The series, which concluded its second season in December, earned Best Drama honors, and best lead actor and actress Golden Globes for stars Damian Lewis and Claire Danes.

The awards came for a season that was not as overwhelmingly positively received as the drama's debut season.

Though President Barack Obama has called himself a fan of the show, some fans and critics questioned the plausibility of several Season 2 plot points (the Brody/VP/pacemaker episode, specifically) and were frustrated with the emphasis on and direction of the Carrie and Brody relationship.

Why was Bill Clinton there?

Bill Clinton (Hillary’s husband) was there to present "Lincoln," a film directed by Steven Spielberg. We're not sure why, but we're willing to bet that President Clinton's friendship with Spielberg had something to do with it. Spielberg has contributed to the Bush Clinton Katrina Foundation. Spielberg also donated $336,000 to Clinton and once stayed at the Lincoln Bedroom.

A source told Yahoo! editor Matt Donnelly that a sniper team was stationed atop the hotel where the ceremony was held, and positioned to protect the former president. In a surprise move, the Golden Globe award for Best Drama went to "Argo," the true story of how the CIA faked a sci-fi movie as a cover to rescue hostages in Iran. Ben Affleck also won the award for Best Director, which is notable because he was overlooked for an Academy Award nomination earlier this week.

Delivering a rambling and confessional speech, Jodie Foster, honored for the Cecil B. DeMille award for lifetime achievement in film at the 70th Annual Golden Globes, addressed rumors that she is a lesbian. She said, “I’m just going to put it out there, loud and proud, right? I am…single. I’m kidding.”

She added, seriously, “I came out a long, long time ago.” She added that did her coming out to friends a long time ago (though not in a public forum), acknowledged she had a female partner when she thanked Cydney Bernard, who she also called out as the co-parent of their children.

Taylor Swift hit a sour note at the Golden Globes this evening.

The pop country crooner, who was up for Best Original Song for her tune “Safe and Sound” recorded for "The Hunger Games, was called out for her bad reaction – on camera – when she didn’t win.

The award went instead to Adele, for her ballad, “Skyfall,” for the James Bond movie of the same name. Twitter quickly heated up, with comments on Yahoo! scolding Swift for being a sore loser.

On Yahoo! live chat, the commenter Impressive_girl posted,
“Taylor Swift needs to learn what it means to be a gracious loser. She's officially gets the award for this year's ‘Elton John’ moment. “

Yahoo! writer Jason Sickles added, "Someone needs to teach Taylor Swift the McKayla thing!" The singer is officially on notice to practice her poker face.

Swift wasn't the only one caught looking less than pleased on camera, as Tommy Lee Jones wasn't cracking up at Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig's presentation.
